On June 29, 2025, Algeria’s Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, hosted Kazakhstan’s Ambassador, Anuarbek Akhmetov, in Algiers to discuss areas of strategic cooperation.

According to a statement from the Ministry, the discussions focused on unlocking investment opportunities in Algeria’s energy and mining sectors, particularly in hydrocarbons, energy infrastructure, electricity production equipment, and renewable energy.

Algeria presented its national energy development strategy, which outlines ambitious goals for hydrocarbon exploration, petrochemical growth, and energy transition. The country is aiming to attract new investment into oil and gas, while also fast-tracking projects around solar, wind, and energy storage.

The meeting also spotlighted technology transfer and expertise exchange, especially around electricity generation and critical infrastructure. Algeria expressed strong interest in Kazakhstan’s technical know-how, particularly in mining, where Kazakhstan has deep experience in extraction and processing.

For Algeria, the collaboration represents more than diplomacy. It’s a bid to diversify partnerships beyond traditional Western and Gulf players, and to tap into Kazakhstan’s post-Soviet industrial strengths in minerals and energy.

As part of the next steps, both countries will establish a joint expert working group to identify, evaluate, and oversee collaboration projects in the short and medium term.
